Anasuya Bommanaboina (b. 1983) is a self taught artist, who hails from the historic city of Warangal in Telangana. Growing up in the land of arts, Anasuya was easily attracted towards painting as her way of expressing her creativity.
A frequent visitor of Hindu temples, Anasuya started observing the details in the gods’ and goddesses’ idols, their clothes and decorations. She naturally gravitated towards choosing them as her subjects. She uses vibrant colours on a bright red background, to express her interpretations of these gods and goddesses. This gives the images of the gods and goddesses a contemporary touch. Anasuya’s main focus lies in painting Their jewellery and the bells around her subjects. Unlike many other artists, who use gold leaf in their art works, to paint the jewellery, crown, coins, etc. the artist uses acrylic colours which makes these paintings even more unique.
Anasuya’s colour palette comprises of bright tones of primary colours —with red being the most prominent colour on the canvas — along with hints of secondary colours. Her subjects have very expressive features, especially Their eyes are full of emotions and expressions. She was inspired by the different Indian folk art forms, especially scroll painting, Nakaashi paintings and the illustrations in Hindu epics. Anasuya focuses on the intricate details in her subjects’ jewellery and painstakingly draws them in symmetry and in perfection. These details add a dimension to her paintings and elevates the onlooker's interest in them. One feels a tranquillity similar to what one would experience in a temple, after looking at Anasuya’s paintings.
Anasuya has participated in many group and solo shows in India.
