A leading light of the Hyderabad art scene, Nagesh Goud, a visual artist, has made his mark in India and abroad with his bold work. The subject is mostly Indian mythology— Ramayana and Mahabharat— is intricately created against hues of pink, yellow, orange and blue. Nagesh is a gold medalist from Jawaharlal Nehru Technology University (1993) and passed with a Distinction in his Maharashtra Art Certification (1987).
Viewers can see a strong influence of the Paithani and Kalamkari way of art in Nagesh’s paintings. What sets him apart from these two styles is his clever use of modern art elements. He creates a face within a face, psychedelic mirror-images with great hues and bold facial representations of the Ganesha, Ram, and Hanuman. The outlines of the faces are profoundly etched and are thick and seem to imprint in the minds of the audience.
He has been honored by the Hyderabad Art Society (1987,2010) and Lalit Kala Samiti, Siddipet (1989, 87). Nagesh has managed to carve a niche for himself, taking inspiration from two ancient and famous styles of paintings and crafting a new art form that he can call his own.
