Shubhra Das was born (1982) and brought up in New Delhi. She pursued her love for art with an educational degree completing her undergraduate studies specializing in Applied Arts from College of Art, New Delhi (2003). She followed it up with a Post-Graduate Degree in Visual Art and painting from Lalit Kala Sansthan, Agra (2005).
Her work is mesmerizing. She articulates her thoughts on canvas through mixed media, oil and acrylic paints. Her love for nature and her thinking that ‘nature is within us and we are nature’ – is depicted in almost all her paintings. Shubhra paints huge canvasses as if to signify the magnitude of her subject. Her work evolves on the canvas as it is a reflection of what is going on inside of her at that particular moment. She intertwines elements from nature such as birds, butterflies, and roots of trees around human figures. Shubhra’s paintings are not complex yet, the elements in the paintings mix with each other giving movement and depth to a relatively simple theme. She can be called a figurative as well as an abstract artist as she combines both these elements beautifully.
Her work has been appreciated and loved by art curators. Her popularity may be gauged by the fact that she has been a part of more than 40 shows around India and abroad. Her work is already a curator’s and an art collector’s delight. She is currently based out of Delhi.
