Born on September 17th, 1915, Maqbool Fida Husain, commonly known as M.F Husain, was an esteemed Indian artist whose remarkable career spanned numerous decades. He was one of the founding members of Bombay's Progressive Artist Groups, one of the most definitive influences on Indian modern art. His artistic journey was marked by significant innovation and controversy, establishing him as a prominent figure in the art world.
Husain's art was characterised by vibrant colours, bold strokes, and a unique fusion of Indian motifs with contemporary themes. He possessed a remarkable ability to capture the essence of Indian culture, mythology, and everyday life in his paintings, often depicting scenes from Hindu mythology, rural life, and urban landscapes, reflecting the diversity and complexity of Indian society.
In the 1930s, Husain refined his painting skills by creating billboards for the burgeoning Bollywood film industry. He was part of a group of young artists aiming to depart from the nationalist artistic traditions of the Bengal school and foster an Indian avant-garde with global engagement. Despite his father's wish for him to pursue business, Husain sold his first painting for Rs 10 on the streets in 1934.
M.F. Husain amassed prestigious accolades, including the Padma Shri (1966), Padma Bhushan (1973), and Padma Vibhushan (1991) from the Government of India. He also received international recognition, such as the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival (1967) for his film "Through the Eyes of a Painter.”

We are leveraging blockchain to ensure that every art bought from Eikowa can never be forged such that it remains truly unique, just like when you bought it. We do this by having a clear link between a digital certificate that cannot be copied and linking this to your physical art.
While we are the first gallery in India to launch this, and our solution is unique internationally, we think as the world begins to realize real-utility use cases of blockchain, our solution will become the golden standard for provenance and authenticity.
